The Gregor Mendel Institute of Molecular Plant Biology (GMI), a renowned institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences--the country's leading supporter of non-university academic research--is seeking a dedicated Communications Officer to join and strengthen our Communication & Public Outreach team. The primary focus of this role is to help create a compelling and consistent presentation of the GMI, both online and in print, ensuring our message resonates effectively with diverse audiences.

Communications Officer (m/f/d) - Part-Time (20h)

Your Responsibilities

• Edit and maintain the GMI website
• Edit reports and promotional materials, liaising with researchers and external partners such as graphic agencies and photographers
• Moderate social media platforms
• Update GMI Wikipedia entries
• Ensure compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
• Assist with outreach activities
• Collaborate and interact with counterparts at other institutions

Required:

• Experience in editing scientific texts and science communication
• Outstanding communication skills in English (especially written)
• Meticulous attention to detail and ability to maintain consistency across formats
• Excellent understanding of science
• Comfortable working in an international environment
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
• Team player with a collaborative mindset

Desired:

• Experience in web and graphic design
• Basic programming skills and knowledge of relevant software
• Photography skills for visual content creation and event documentation

Salary

The actual minimum salary is 50,000 EUR gross per year (on a 40-hour basis), the actual salary depends on your qualifications and experience. The salary is paid 14 times per year.
