Scientific Software Engineer

Your Mission/Field of Work

You are a Software Engineer with an academic background in natural/technical sciences and want to contribute through your work to

• support global geophysical monitoring systems in an international context
• help geoscientists evolving their data analysis tools
• assure the quality of Earth observation data for climate monitoring

Your Skills and Experience

As our preferred candidate you have professional experience in the following areas:

• A university degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or a related scientific/technical subject
• Strong experience in object-oriented development with Python and C/C++
• Relational databases, SQL and database programming
• Software development under Linux with large codebases
• Demonstrated technical presentation and communication skills
• Sound communication skills in written and spoken English

Beneficial skills are also:

• Experience in scientific GUI development with PyQt and Matplotlib
• Knowledge of or interest in Angular, React, Java, C#
• GitLab and continuous integration and testing pipelines
• Experience with software containerisation using Docker or Podman
• Agile development frameworks, preferably Scrum with Jira or other issue tracking tools

Our Offer

At AWST, we are a small and independent Vienna based team providing software development and software engineering services to international organisations.

Salary

We offer a starting salary between 45,000 EUR und 62,000 EUR gross per year (on a 40-hour basis) which will be adjusted based on your qualification and experience. The salary is paid 14 times per year.
